Legislative Update

The TBI Council’s Task Force to build system capacity is working on the following issues:

  1. Persons with brain injury are not aware of resources available in Nebraska. (3,000 Nebraskans each year experience a head injury.)
Proposed Solution: Require Brain Injury Registry follow-up by amending the current brain injury registry to require notification to persons with brain injury about available resources. For more information refer to Brain Injury Registry Fact Sheet.
  2. Persons with brain injury are falling through the cracks of Nebraska's existing services and are at risk of a lifetime dependence on public funds because help is not available.
Proposed Solution: Expand existing services under the TBI Waiver and expand community-based services by establishing an Interim Crisis Fund/Brain Injury Act, which could provide flexible and timely services and financial assistance to promote independence and reduce the risk of institutionalization. For more information refer to Brain Injury Act Fact Sheet.
